Available Services for Businesses

Business Services consists of a team of Certified Business Services Consultants that are ready to work with businesses to hire, develop, and train their talent through matching training funds, in addition to providing customized services to meet the unique needs of your business.

Subsidized Employment

The WDB provides subsidized wages for eligible individuals for up to 6 months, with 100% subsidy provided for the first three months of employment. This provides businesses an opportunity to test the skill set and cultural fit of a candidate with minimal risk.

Incumbent Worker Training

The WDB provides a 50% match of an employers’ cash or in-kind investment in improving the technical skills of its employees. This allows businesses to be more competitive and take a proactive role in maintaining current skill sets within their industry.

Customized Training

The WDB provides a 50% match of an employers’ cash or in-kind investment in training candidates before onboarding them. This allows businesses to ensure required skills sets are met before hiring.

Layoff Aversion

The WDB works with business on strategies to avoid layoffs or business closures through our Layoff Aversion program. Layoff Aversion is any activity that saves a job such as staff training, financial studies, economic data, and/or connections to hiring companies. Local boards have significant flexibility to strategize and develop solutions with businesses.

Rapid Response

If you are a business owner or representative of an employer considering or who has already experienced work stoppages, layoffs or furloughs, the Rapid Response program may be able to help you. Contact us to discuss options and services that may assist impacted employees, including Unemployment Insurance information, tax assistance, Work Sharing program to avoid layoffs, financial planning, remote career services and more.

On-The-Job-Training (OJT)

The WDB has funding that will match employers’ investment up to 75% of the employees’ wages while they are training on site. This will provide an opportunity to impact an employer’s bottom line by offsetting the high cost of hiring and training new employees.

Solano-Napa Small Business Development Center

The Solano-Napa SBDC provides expert no-cost advising, webinars, and trainings to guide small business owners and entrepreneurs and foster economic growth in Solano County. We’re here to help you and your business thrive.

The Solano-Napa SBDC offers free, individualized, and confidential one-on-one advising for existing businesses and start-ups with 500 or fewer employees. Business advisors are experienced in a variety of areas, including business plans, marketing, restaurant operations, human resources, retail, and product pricing.

The Solano-Napa SBDC is hosted by the Workforce Development Board of Solano County.

In addition to one-on-one advising and webinars, the Solano-Napa SBDC has several ongoing programs for business owners, including:

• Biz Rx: Developed by the Solano-Napa SBDC and launched in 2020, Biz Rx features two key components, both free to participants – a webinar series on marketing and revenue improvement opportunities as well as a confidential one-on-one assessment of your business with a SBDC advisor.

Entrepreneurs Roundtable – Vallejo: This free monthly program is funded by the city of Vallejo to help their business owners navigate the impacts of COVID-19.

Business Translation Services – Need help with translation for your business? Solano-Napa SBDC Offers no-charge professional written translation or verbal interpretation services for business in Solano County (for businesses purposes only).
